Chiengora is yarn spun from dog hair.  The word is a combination of the french word for dog “chien”, and angora.  Chiengora yarns can be as varied as the many types of dogs.  Usually, they are very soft, light, and warm.  Chiengora can be spun in a variety of weights from laceweight through worsted.  It can also be worsted spun, for a smoother yarn, or woolen spun and brushed, for a fluffy yarn with a delightful halo.

Welcome to Chiengora4U

Chiengora products are a treasure.   Not only are they beautiful, one-of-a-kind, custom art works, they are very personal to their owners.  The fiber used is brush out from their own sweet pets.

At Chiengora4U, you can have your fiber spun into yarn, felted into a variety of custom items, or have it spun and woven into a wearable, or a wall hanging.

The key to a successful chiengora piece is clean fiber, and great communication!

Dyed chiengora

Chiengora can be dyed, just like any other fiber.  This can multiply the possibilities for your fiber.  Here are a neck warmer, and a neck warmer liner.  Both are custom dyed, and hand knit.

To the left is a scarf handspun and handwoven. The white yarn is alpaca/silk, commercial yarn that made a stronger warp than this hand-spun, caramel colored chow.  Most fibers will spin, but the best fibers are the ones that are brushed out, rather than clipped. Poodle clip, if the poodle is clipped regularly, is too short. If you have your poodle clipped seasonally (if you let it grown shaggy), It should be long enough, though.
